This holiday season, as we celebrate community and connection, we’re delighted to feature Hoce and Nick Kalkas, owners of Daniel Island Wealth Management, as our December Sponsor of the Month. With backgrounds as military veterans and U.S. Diplomats, trust has always been at the center of their work—and it’s the foundation of the firm they’ve built here on Daniel Island.

What inspired you to start DI Wealth Management?

The idea began when close friends faced a serious financial challenge, revealing gaps in the support people were receiving. At the same time, Hoce was working in JPMorgan Chase’s Wealth Management division, and Nick was studying portfolio management at the University of Chicago. These experiences, paired with a deep belief that a family’s wealth represents decades of effort and sacrifice, inspired them to create a firm focused on protecting and growing that legacy.

For Nick and Hoce, transitioning from the military to wealth management felt surprisingly natural—both demand sharp risk assessment, steady leadership, and watching people’s backs. Today, they take immense pride in guiding families toward clarity, confidence, and long-term security.

How has Daniel Island shaped your approach?

After living in more than five countries and a dozen cities, they knew immediately that Daniel Island was extraordinary. Its warmth, energy, and strong sense of community made it the perfect place to build a local wealth management firm. Trust and transparency guide every client relationship, and as a team, Hoce and Nick bring a high level of personal care and devotion to their work.

How do you give back?

The Kalkases are deeply committed to serving the island. They support local veteran organizations, plan to launch a veteran internship program, and enjoy mentoring students—including Nick’s recent guest lecture on personal finance at Bishop England High School. Hoce also serves on the Daniel Island Community Association Board, advocating for residents and preserving the charm of the community they love.
